Processing Climate Data Records (CDRs) at EWC

The EUMETSAT Satellite Application Facility on Climate Monitoring (CM SAF), as a part of the SAF network, provides satellite-based products and services for climate monitoring. These products encompass variables of the Earth's energy budget and hydrological cycle. The provided data consists of Climate Data Records (CDRs), which are based on long-term satellite observations, as well as Interim Climate Data Records (ICDRs) with a short temporal latency, which provide a continuation of the respective CDR data product. The availability of both input data and computing resources is crucial for the successful execution of these tasks.

To date, CM SAF has calculated one of its CDRs on the EWC and is currently utilizing EWC resources to produce the corresponding ICDR in a timely manner. Furthermore, CM SAF uses EWC resources for the development process of upcoming CDRs to expand the use of the EWC in the future. The utilization of the EWC enables CM SAF to dynamically allocate resources, employ burst capacity for batch processing, and cache data. Further insights regarding the plans and processes can be found in the subsequent presentation given at the 7th EWC User Workshop 2024.
